I've been in the library field, part-time since 1963 (student page at UC Berkeley's Doe Library), full-time (or almost full time) from 1968 through 2007 (Doe Library Circulation Department, then Systems Office, then Research Libraries Group, finally OCLC during the RLG-OCLC transition), now part-time as a LYRASIS contractor.

Member of ALA since 1975, very active in LITA (and ISAD, its predecessor) in the late 1970s, 1980s and through mid-1990s, still a LITA member.

You could say I've been a writer and editor (and sometimes speaker) since high school--with a 39-year diversion and day job as a systems analyst, designer and programmer. In the process, I've published a dozen traditionally-published books via ALA Editions, G.K. Hall and Knowledge Industry (and a growing number of specialized PoD books via Lulu and CreateSpace), written more than 500 articles and columns appearing in ONLINE, EContent, American Libraries, Library Hi Tech and Library Hi Tech News, a range of other publications--and, primarily since 2001, Cites & Insights, my own free ejournal. I've also spoken to library groups on more than a hundred invited occasions, including forty-odd keynotes.
