I appreciate Carl Grant's additional comments. I think they refine his original discussion, and I'd rather see what the rest of you have to say about his call. I've never been happy with "information" as a key word for what libraries are about, and find Wikipedia's definition uselessly overbroad--but that's one way of solving the problem. That terminology issue has almost nothing to do with Grant's ideas, which I believe merit serious thinking. (Neither does the other terminology issue--that is, to what extent is OpenLibrarianship different than Librarian 2.0?)
Personally, I question the depth of the generational differences cited here (and in many other sources)...but that's me (and another set of other sources!).
You're the leaders. You're the ones dealing with the generations of [physical and virtual] library users. What say you? The forums are open, and there's plenty of room for new articles...
