Footnotes and references

If you need to include footnotes or references in an article, follow this procedure:

Add your footnote text

Key your footnote text between the tags
<ref>
and
</ref>
When saved or previewed, this will appear as a superscript bracketed number.[1]

Generate your footnotes and references=

When you're finished with your text, add an appropriate heading, e.g.
==Notes==
and, on the next line,
<references/>.[2]

The resulting notes will include up-arrows linking back to the original text, which makes it easy for people to check footnotes and continue reading the article.

It should wind up looking like this:

Notes

  1. For example, this footnote generated a superscript [1].
  2. Do remember to include the slash at the end of <references/>!

You can click on edit above to see how this help text was created. You won't use "<nowiki>" and ""</nowiki> in your article.
